Elephant on the car Claim!

Unusual claims abound! Here is a story from New Zealand Herald's Sideswipe of a claim that happened 50 years ago in Queen Street, Auckland.

Published in the August 22nd Sideswipe column: Our amusing little piece about unusual car insurance claims in the UK brings to mind an incident in Queen St, Auckland, some 50 years ago, writes Alan.

"The editor of one of New Zealand's most respected newspapers was driving to work, but was forced to come to a halt near the Wyndham St intersection by a travelling circus. One of the elephants being guided up the thoroughfare decided it was time for a rest, so it promptly sat down - on the bonnet of the editor's car. I never did hear whether the editor's insurance claim succeeded or failed, or whether the matter was settled privately, but I know it caused some (wisely) muted amusement back at the paper."
